We are a group of Jews, some who teach at universities and some who do not, who were raised with a Zionist education in British schools and synagogues. We came together in October 2023 to try to make sense of the unfolding devastation in Palestine. We felt that we did not know enough about Zionism and the history of its thought and practice. Through reading foundational Zionist texts and bringing them into conversation with Palestinian commentary we felt more empowered to make sense of how our community has supported what we understand to be settler colonialism, genocide, and apartheid. We established the Jewish Solidarity School to widen access within our community and beyond to these forms of knowledge that many of us were taught to turn away from. We hope that by equipping people with this knowledge, more of us will be able to engage in anti-oppressive solidarity work.
