Overall
JSS is run by a group of Jews, some who teach at universities and some who do not. Most of us were raised in British schools and synagogues. We established the Jewish Solidarity School to widen access within our community and beyond to forms of anti-oppressive knowledge that many of us were taught to turn away from. We hope that by equipping people with this knowledge, more of us will be able to engage in solidarity work in the face of global fascisms.
Kashye (Objection)
Our ongoing political education initiative ‘Kashye’ works to give Jewish people the tools to understand and critique Zionism. We first came together in October 2023 to try to make sense of the unfolding devastation in Palestine. We felt that we did not know enough about Zionism and the history of its thought and practice. Through reading foundational Zionist texts and bringing them into conversation with Palestinian commentary we aim to empower Jewish people to make better sense of how large parts of our community have supported what we understand to be settler colonialism, genocide, and apartheid. In doing so, Kashye aims to strengthen Jewish solidarity with the Palestinian liberation movement.
